Isabel is active in Belgium since 1995 and has become one of the most important providers of multi-bank services for professional users.
Following the entry into force of the EU Second Payment Services Directive 2015/2366 (“PSD2”), transposed into the Belgian Law of 11 March 2018, Isabel applied for a Payment Service Provider license covering two types of regulated activities it had developed:
Account Information Services (“AIS”) and
Payment Initiation Services (“PIS”).
Isabel received its license as a payment institution from the National Bank of Belgium (“NBB”) on 19 February 2019 for its Ponto service (read more).
As a regulated service under PSD21, Ponto is audited by the National bank of Belgium, who verifies our conformance with the security requirements set out in PSD2 , with PSD2 regulatory technical standards (“RTS”), with GDPR2 and with the AMLD3. As a regulated payment institution, Isabel must also implement the requirements set out in the regulation (EU) 2022/2554 on digital operational resilience for the financial sector (DORA).
1PSD2 is the second version of the European payment services directive (read more). This regulation is important in our context because it obliges the banks to offer an interface that will allow authorized third parties like Ponto to access the bank accounts of the banks’ customers, securely and with their explicit consent.
2GDPR is the European data protection regulation of the European Union (read more). Ponto guarantees that your data is always processed in accordance with the privacy and security requirements set out in the GDPR.
3AMLD is the European anti-money laundering directive (read more), is a set of requirements with which payment service providers like Ponto must comply, to ensure that Ponto is not used for illegal purposes like money laundering or terrorist financing.
